The former Atletico Madrid star then posted a picture of himself in his hospital bed on his Twitter account, claiming he is doing fine saying: "Everything went well, and I'll soon begin recovery.
"A big thanks to Dr Cugat and his team – and to all of you for your support."
It is understood that the prolific goalscorer will be fit enough to face Real Madrid in the round of Champions League tie at the Etihad and would return to action in the next five weeks.
Pep Guardiola's men took a 2-1 first-leg advantage at the Bernabeu before the pandemic and Aguero's inclusion will give the team a massive boost in the second leg in August.
Aguero’s dad, Leonel Del Castillo, revealed: “He thinks it’s the meniscus, because if it were a more serious injury, the knee would feel different.
“He will have an MRI scan and then they will see the seriousness of the injury.
“After the surgery, we will be in Barcelona for five or six days and return to Manchester for recovery.
“He said he wanted to do it now to play in the Champions League.”
However, Aguero would likely miss the remainder of the season on the domestic scene with Liverpool close to be crowned champions of England.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that Gabriel Martinelli is the latest casualty at Arsenal after suffering a knee injury in training that could rule him out for months.
The 19-year-old clashed with a teammate during their training session and damaged his cartilage making him the fourth player in the club to get injured since the resumption of the season.
