- Tottenham defeated Man City in a controversial Premier League fixture played in north London

- Sterling had already been booked in the match after stamping on Dele Alli's ankle

Jose Mourinho's Tottenham got the better of Man City and it was the Portuguese's sixth victory over Pep Guardiola in his managerial career.

But the contest was marred with controversies especially when Raheem Sterling was not sent off after a second bookable offence.

The Englishman was earlier shown a yellow card for a dangerous tackle on Dele Alli before taking a dive after Hugo Lloris saved Ilkay Gundogan's penalty.

Sterling went for the rebound after Lloris got a hand to the ball and seemed to have taken a dive as referee Mike Dean pointed to the spot for the second time.

Players were enraged with the decision and there was a scuffle between both teams before calm was restored.

After a check on the VAR, the penalty was reversed and Sterling being on a yellow was not given a red for diving.

And when Mourinho was told by his assistant Joao Sacramento that Sterling was already on a yellow, his reaction was absolutely priceless.

The Portuguese gaffer was at first laughing and drinking water and the next moment he got up from his seat to confront the fourth official Graham Scott on the touchline.

The penalty decision itself was controversial after the referee did not give a penalty when Serge Aurier challenged Sergio Aguero in the 18-yard box.

Only for the VAR to alert the referee two and half minutes later to give the penalty while play was going on.
