Ojie Edoburun: 23-year-old Nigerian athlete emerges new British champion in men’s 100m race

Nigerians in the diaspora are making the country proud in their chosen fields. The new British 100 metres champion Ojie Edoburun is a Nigerian.

Edoburun beat Adam Gemili and Zharnel Hughes to the British 100 metres crown in Birmingham on Saturday, August 24, thanks to a photo finish because all three recorded in 10.18 seconds finish.

The Nigerian’s victory has secured him a spot on the team for the world championships. It will be his first major senior athletics meet.

The athlete who was surprised at his winning and he shared photos from his moment of glory on his Instagram handle with the caption:

Legit.ng reported that Nigerian-born Irish speed racer Rhasidat Adeleke who represented Ireland during the European Youth Olympics (EYOF) in Baku, Azerbaijan won a gold medal in the women's 100m final.

This win will be Adeleke's first gold medal as she crossed the line comfortably in a time of 11.70 seconds ahead of Johanna Klymanen (Finland) and Cheyenne Kuhn (Germany).

It was also reported that Nigerian-born American basketball player Josh Okogie will be representing his fatherland during the coming International Basketball Federation (FIBA) World Cup.

The basketball competition is expected to hold in China from Saturday, August 31, to Sunday, September 15, 2019.
