Manchester City defeated Brighton & Hove Albion 1-0 in a tough FA Cup semi-final clash on Saturday, April 6, at the Wembley stadium.

The encounter saw Manchester City forward, Gabriel Jesus net the opening goal of the match in the fourth minute off a Kevin de Bruyne's decent cross, to keep City's dream of securing a quadruple alive.

The Citizens dominated exchanges in the first stanza as Brighton were satisfied sitting back and wait to attack the Citizens on the counter.

After 32 minutes of hostilities, Kyle Walker was close to seeing red for what looked like a headbutt on Jahanbakhsh, but the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) saved his blushes after ruling out an explosion.

Five minutes before the break, Brighton created their first real chance of the game, but Anthony Knockaert could not connect Glen Murray.

In the second stanza, City continued to continued attack Brighton as they did in the first with Ilkay Gundogan and Raheem Sterling forcing Matt Ryan to make decent saves in the first 15 minutes if the restart.

After 70 minutes of action, Brighton were seeing more balls as they battled for an equalizer, with City took relaxing a bit.

As the game approached the closing moments, Brighton turned on the heat , but Pep Guardiola responded by bringing in defender John Stones to help seal their defence.

At the blast of the final whistle, Citizens had to bank on Jesus early goal, to progress to the FA Cup final in May.

Earlier, reported that Man City star Sergio Aguero may likely not play any role against Brighton in Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final clash at Wembley despite travelling with the squad to London.

According to Mirror, City boss Pep Guardiola, who is eyeing a Quadruple with the Citizens, is cautious not to risk the Argentine ahead of Tuesday’s massive tie against Tottenham.
