Barely days before the expiration of the ninth Assembly, the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Bamidele Oloyeloogun, has resigned from his position.

The speaker’s resignation was contained in a letterhead of the House, signed and addressed to the Clerk of the House, dated Thursday, June 1st, 2023 (01-06-2023).

The letter which was made available to The Punch on Friday, June 1st, was titled, ‘Resignation as Speaker, Ondo State House of Assembly.’

The resignation letter reads,

“Please permit me to inform you that I, Rt. Hon. Oleyelogun, Bamidele David, ceases to function as Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly. This follows my decision to resign from the position with effect from today (Thursday).
“As you are aware, this Honourable House has always discharged its constitutional obligations as one indivisible family. That was the spirit that propped me to the exalted position as Speaker. It is in light of that same spirit that I resign from the position.”

In another development, Honourable Oleyelogun dismissed the media reports that he has resigned.

As reported by TVC News, the lawmaker in a statement he personally signed, said he remains the speaker of the house of assembly.

According to him, his resignation is the figment of the imagination of the peddlers of such heinous act.

Two APC lawmakers kicked out of Ondo parliament, speaker gives reason

The duo of Hon. Favour Towomewo and Hon. Success Torhukerhijo, lawmakers at the Ondo state House of Assembly have been shown the exit door out of the legislative chambers for offenses bordering on anti-party activities.

Both lawmakers are members of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) representing the Ilaje Constituency II and Ese Odo constituency respectively.

Legit.ng gathered that findings revealed that both lawmakers had affiliations with other political parties that influenced their emergence into the Ondo state legislative chamber.

Minority caucus endorses Betara as 10th Speaker

In another development, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) risks losing it all in the leadership tussle for the House of Representatives Speaker seat.

Emerging reports have confirmed a crisis among APC lawmakers in the lower and upper chambers.

However, the minority caucus of the House of Reps held a meeting to nominate Hon Aliyu Betara as their candidate to upstage APC's candidate.
