Aisha Buhari Declares War on Women, Girl Illiteracy as President Prays for Nigeria in Saudi

  • Mrs Buhari maintained that her foundation through funding from partners, would provide the much needed support to women, youths and other less privileged families

Abuja- The First Lady, Aisha Buhari, has expressed readiness to strengthen collaboration with other development partners to provide the needed support for the advancement of women and girl-child education.

Daily Nigerian reports that Mrs Buhari made this vow on Thursday, October 28, when she received members of the Nigerian Association of Pharmacists and Pharmaceutical Scientists (NAPPSA), from the US, who paid her a visit in Abuja.

She said her foundation, through the collaborative effort of development partners, provided support to women, youths and other less privileged families, especially on medical outreaches, building maternity clinics and improved girl-child education.

The first lady also told the visitors that the Aisha Buhari Foundation built a college in Maiduguri with the aim of supporting the educational pursuit of the girl-child, especially children whose parents died as a result of Boko Haram insurgency, The Guardian also reported.

She said:

“The establishment of the Future Assured College in Maiduguri, Borno State recently is to provide for the education of young girls affected by insurgency.
“This intervention provides a lead way of what we can do together to support these young brains to attain brighter future because of the challenges facing girl-child education.
“Prospect of promoting quality health and education of girl-child both at school and at home are seriously challenged.”

She therefore urged stakeholders not to lose focus on the desire to ensure conducive atmosphere for women and girl-child to achieve their aspirations in future.

Mrs Buhari used the visit to remind the gathering that much was expected in the task of improving the living standard of women and children.

In her response, the President of NAPPSA, Teresa Pounds, commended the effort of the first lady in championing the course of women, youths and children in the country.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had earlier reported that the wife of President Muhammadu Buhari, Aisha, has revealed how she survived after getting married at an early age.

It was reported that the First Lady got married to President Buhari in 1989 when she was 18 years old.

Legit.ng gathered that in her new book: ‘Aisha Buhari: Being Different,’ Aisha said the future seemed unsure when she got married as a teenager but the spirit of optimism made her conquer fear and worries.

Earlier, the Kaduna government has admitted that the state is the epicentre of banditry in the country, but stated that efforts are in top gear to tackle the issue.

The statement was made by the Kaduna state commissioner for internal security and home affairs, Samuel Aruwan during a webinar on Tuesday, May 18 attended by a Legit.ng reporter.

The webinar which was organised by a foremost civil society organisation, Connected Development (CODE) in partnership with Malala Fund, hosted a forum where stakeholders discussed the harrowing impact of insecurity on children’s education especially that of the girl-child - with a focus on Kaduna state.
