At Sotheby's Fashion Icon auction, the renowned red and white sweater sparked a 15-minute bidding war that resulted in 44 bids, raising the price from N142m to N863m.
According to TMZ, Princess Diana first wore the sweater back in 1981, and it gained instant popularity when she was pictured in it on the front page of a newspaper.
This moment catapulted the British brand Warm & Wonderful, the designers behind the garment, to unparalleled popularity.
The iconic sheep sweater remained tucked away in the brand's archives for decades until its rediscovery this March by co-founder Joanna Osborne.
Prince Harry, Meghan Markle share heartbroken message
