Eid El-Fitri: Worshippers Break FG’s New Lockdown Rules in Katsina, Troop Maskless to Praying Ground

- Muslims throughout Nigeria have celebrated this year's Eid-el-Fitr

- The faithful gathered in the different praying ground to observe the eid prayer

- But the lockdown protocol was ignored in some states, especially in Katsina

Despite the order by the federal government that there should be no gathering of more than 50 persons to curtail the spread of the deadly COVID-19, some Muslim worshippers in Katsina, the home state of President Muhammadu Buhari, broke the rule on Thursday, May 13.

Legit.ng reports that the gathering was meant to observe the Eid prayers marking the end of the Holy month of Ramadan 1442AH.

The people, who were led by their Imam, trooped out in their number to worship Allah for seeing them through the fasting period and to make their supplications before him.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Nigeria's first family on Thursday, May 13, joined millions of Muslims in the country to celebrate the Eid el-Fitr festival at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

It was reported that the attendees at the event were President Muhammadu Buhari, the first lady, Aisha Buhari, and some of their children and grandchildren.

Other prominent government officials who were at the Villa for the prayers and celebration were the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan, Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila, and the National Security Adviser, Babagana Munguno.

Others were national security heads like Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru, Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Zubairu Gambo, the FCT minister, Mohammed Bello, Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, and the Yusuf Bichi, the director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS).

In a related report, the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh AbdulGaniy Abubakar Agbotomokekere, on Wednesday, May 12, defied the directive of the Sultan to fast because of their non-appearance of the new crescent of Shawwal.

Sheikh Agbotomokekere led a fraction of Muslims to pray at the praying ground Agodi area of the ancient city.

The Imam's media handler, Ustadh Idris Agbotomokekere, said the directive of the Chief Imam was upon the sighting of the new moon.

The cleric, however, acted against the statement of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs under the leadership of its president-general and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa'ad Abubakar.
