Just In: Tension as Gunmen Stage Mass Abduction in Southwest State

- At least three construction workers have been kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Ondo state

Some unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted three construction workers in Akoko northwest local government area of Ondo state.

Daily Trust reports that the construction workers were said to be among those rehabilitating Ikaram to Akunnu road in the area.

The newspaper cited sources as saying the tragic incident occurred at about 6pm on Tuesday, April 20, creating serious tension and anxiety in Ikaram and Akunnu axis.

It was gathered that local hunters, vigilantes and police are combing the forest around the axis in search of the victims, PM News also reported.

Confirming the incident, the acting police area commander for Ikare Akoko, chief superintendent of police Timibra Toikimo, called on the people of Akoko to assist the police by sharing information and intelligence that can lead to the arrest of the criminals.

The Alauga of Auga Akoko, Oba Samuel Agunloye, appealed to the government to consider the Isowopo axis which according to him need serious policing and military locations around the area that is sharing boundaries with Edo and Kogi states.

In a related development, suspected gunmen have abducted some students during an attack on a private university in Kaduna state on the night of Tuesday, April 20.

The academic institution, Green Field University, is located along the Kaduna–Abuka highway in Chikun local government area of the state.

Legit.ng gathered that the institution is the first private university in the state and was established three years ago.

Meanwhile, a former senator, Shehu Sani, has condemned the abduction of the university students.

Sani in a statement via his official Twitter handle described the abduction of the students as another tragedy.

The activist said the insecurity situation along that axis has forced people to abandon farms located in the area.
