Anglican Reverend Joins APC, Declares Interest in Contesting Anambra Governorship Election

- A Christian cleric, Reverend Godwin Okonkwo, has joined the Anambra state's governorship race

- Okonkwo who is a former managing director of the NNPC wants to contest the governorship seat on the platform of the APC

- At the APC secretariat in Anambra on Friday, April 16, the cleric urged the party members to make the right decision to ensure the best aspirant gets the ticket

Godwin Okonkwo, a reverend of the Anglican Communion, has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra state ahead of the state's governorship election which has been scheduled to hold on Saturday, November 6,

Nigerian Tribune reports that Okonkwo who is also a former managing director of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), visited the APC secretariat on Friday, April 16, to declare his ambition to become the party's gubernatorial candidate.

Reverend Okonkwo said his understanding of the state’s political system and developmental challenges and his 35-year experience in the NNPC put him in a better position to manage the affairs of the state and deliver the much-needed dividends of democracy.

He appealed to the members of the APC in the state to make the right decision while choosing the party's candidate for the governorship election.

If elected, Reverend Okonkwo said his administration will reduce the cost of governance to its bearest minimum and make community development a priority.

He added he will reduce the era of borrowing in the state. Rev. Okonkwo also donated a Sienna vehicle to the state chapter of the party for the electoral activities.

In his remark, the state chairman of the party, Chief Basil Ejidike, welcomed Godwin Okonkwo and gave an assurance that APC will conduct a free, fair and credible primary election.
