Foden, 20, is said to have been left livid after the tweet which appeared to call out Mbappe.

Ten Toes Media is the company responsible for managing Foden’s social media and the tweet was reportedly sent out without his consent.

Foden was in fine form on Wednesday night as he bagged his second goal of the tie as Manchester City defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-1 (4-2 on aggregate) to set up a clash against PSG in the semifinal of the UEFA Champions League.

After the game, a tweet from Phil Foden’s Twitter account was sent out which seemed to challenge Kylian Mbappe.

The tweet, which read “Kylian Mbappe, are you ready?” instantly went viral, with a number of fans calling out Foden for being subtly egoistic.

But according to The Telegraph, neither Foden nor his representatives were aware that the tweet was sent out and have since decided to part ways with Ten Toes Media.

The post was eventually deleted and Manchester City correspondent Sam Lee took to clear the incident.

"Foden didn't post that Mbappe tweet himself, it was done by the company that manages his account." Lee wrote on Twitter following City's win against Borussia Dortmund. "People close to Foden not particularly happy about it and it's been deleted."

A number of popular sports personalities have since commented on the incident, including Gary Neville who only a few weeks ago, lamented on the issue of football players having someone else run their social media accounts.
