Tension as Suspected Gunmen Storm Ekiti State, Abduct Monarch

There is a palpable tension in the Oye local government area of Ekiti state over the abduction of the Obadu of Ilemeso-Ekiti, Oba David Oyewumi.

Vanguard reports that the Elewu of Ewu, in Ilemeje local government area, Oba Adetutu Ajayi, had escaped the kidnapper’s ambush a week ago.

Legit.ng gathered that Oba Oyewumi was said to have been kidnapped in his palace by gunmen who scaled the fence, shot sporadically into the air and made away with him.

The report added that the state police public relations officer, Sunday Abutu, confirmed the incident, saying, “it happened yesterday in his palace.”

Daily Independent also reports that Abutu said necessary steps have been taken to rescue the monarch and apprehend the culprits.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Eze Charles Iroegbu, the traditional ruler of Umueze Nguru in the Aboh Mbaise local government area of Imo state was kidnapped by gunmen.

It was reported that the monarch was kidnapped along with some cabinet chiefs of the kingdom when returning from a traditional wedding within the state.

The publication stated that the gunmen intercepted and diverted the three vehicles that were conveying Eze Charles Iroegbu, and his cabinet chiefs.

A source reportedly said the kidnapping of the respected traditional ruler has caused fear and panic in the community.

In a related report, Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna said that the state government would soon secure the freedom of the abducted students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka in the Igabi local government area of the state.
