Torreira is currently on a season-long loan with Atletico Madrid who he joined at the start of the 2020/21 campaign.

However, he has found game time hard to come by at the club under Diego Simeone, often featuring as a substitute.

Goal reports the midfield star does not see a future for himself in Europe and he is therefore exploring the option of heading back to Argentina.

The 25-year-old revealed Argentine giants Boca Juniors are his ideal destination, pleading with the Gunners to fast track an agreement so he can seal the switch in the summer.

"I want to go to Boca Juniors now. I am 25 years old and I know it’s a club that plays for great targets," he told the YouTube channel Perfil Bulos.
"I’d like to make the fans happy but I know it's not easy. Boca should reach an agreement with Arsenal for a one-year loan," he added.

Torreira's recent remarks surrounding his Arsenal future came just days after he made public his desire to move to Argentina.

He made the announcement during an emotional interview with ESPN Argentina, revealing he was keen to stay close to his family after the death of his mother.

Whereas it remains unclear if Arsenal will sanction the transfer, it is becoming increasingly evident he has no future under Mikel Arteta.

Torreira joined the north Londoners from Sampdoria in 2018 and was initially seen as an influential figure in the dressing room after he made 50 appearances in his debut season.

However, he managed just 17 starts in the Premier League during the 2019/20 season, with an ankle injury suffered in March 2020 taking a huge toll on his form.

He was eventually moved on to Atletico on loan as part of the £45m deal that allowed Arsenal to sign Thomas Partey.
