- Unknown to most Nigerians, the governor of Rivers, Nyesom Wike, has taken the COVID-19 vaccine

- Wike disclosed that he decided to take the jab in a low-key mode because he did not want it to seem like a political affair

- The governor explained that he had the choice to pretend to have taken the vaccine but decided not to go that way

Governor Nyesom Wike has revealed why he decided to take the COVID-19 vaccine without drawing public attention like some of his counterparts.

The Rivers governor on Saturday, March 27, revealed that the decision was taken because he did not want to make the exercise look like commissioning a project, adding that most Nigerians enjoy bringing politics into everything.

Wike added that he can choose to pretend about taking the jab and by so doing, deceive the media, The Nation reports.

The governor said this in response to claims among some of his detractors that he did not take the vaccine.

His words:

“Some people said that I did not take my vaccine. I did, but am not into public shows. Taking a vaccine is not undertaking any project for anybody to see that you have taken a vaccine.

“It has turned to politics. Assuming what I am taking is not the vaccine? Yes, I can pretend and then they will put it on the news that I have taken the vaccine..."

According to The Independent, Wike said he took the jab when a delegation of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 (PTF) led by Mukhtar Muhammad, the national incident manager, paid him a courtesy visit in Port Harcourt.

Meanwhile, the Kogi state governor, Yahaya Bello, had said he would not receive the COVID-19 vaccine because he did not need it.
