Breaking: Fire breaks out at Nigerian Army headquarters

- The Nigerian Army has confirmed that the reported fire outbreak at its headquarters in Abuja.

The Nigerian Army reported a fire outbreak at its headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday morning, March 2.

According to NTA, a spokesperson for the army, Brigadier General Muhammed Yerima, said the incident occurred at about 10.15am.

He said the fire outbreak was caused by a minor electrical fault in one of the offices.

General Yerima disclosed that the fire was put out by the Nigerian Army Fire Service Department

He stated that the Army Headquarters complex is currently undergoing renovation.

The army did not report any serious damage following the incident.

Meanwhile, the appointment of the new service chiefs has been confirmed by the Senate, following the consideration of the report of its committee on defence.

The Nation reported that the Senate president, Ahmad Lawan, had on Wednesday, February 24, referred the request of President Muhammadu Buhari for confirmation of the new service chiefs to the committee.

Legit.ng gathered that Lawan gave the committee, led by Senator Aliyu Wamakko, two weeks to carry out their assignments and report to the Senate in plenary.

The Senate confirmed their appointments at the committee of the whole and at plenary on Tuesday, March 2, following the Wamakko report’s consideration.

In another report, President Muhammadu Buhari has presided over the National Security Council (NSC) meeting at the State House, Presidential Villa, Abuja over insecurity in the country.
