ACF challenges Zamfara governor to name abductors of Jangebe schoolgirls

Security agencies in Nigeria have been asked by the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) to investigate Zamfara state governor, Bello Matawalle, The Nation reports.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday, March 2, by ACF national chairman and former minister of agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbe.

According to the report, ACF urged the agencies to make the northern governor name the abductors of the Jangebe school girls after he was quoted to have said he knows the identity, of the kidnappers.

It was gathered that Matawalle told 17 Emirs who paid him a sympathy visit that Nigerians will be shocked if he revealed the identity of the abductors.

The apex northern socio-cultural group stated that Matawalle should be treated as an accomplice to the criminal act if he fails to reveal the identity of the kidnappers.

Ogbe said the governor must stop embarrassing the north and Nigeria with careless statements on a serious issue like the kidnappings of school children.

Jangebe schoolgirls regain freedom

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that the Zamfara government announced the release of over 300 schoolgirls kidnapped from Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in Talatu-Mafara local government area of the state.

Matawalle gave the good news in the early morning of Tuesday, March 2, following speculation about their release at the weekend.

However, hours after the release of the kidnapped students, Governor Matawalle finally revealed how the girls were freed from their captors.

The governor said on Tuesday, March 2, that while the state was in negotiation with kidnappers of the schoolgirls, the armed men were offered money by unnamed persons not to release the children.

Matawalle made the disclosure when he was addressing the freed Jangebe schoolgirls in Gusau, the state capital.
