Nigerian genius invented an insect control technology in Brazil

The long-held belief that African nations only exist as consumers without making any contribution to the betterment of the cause of humanity is fast becoming a thing of the past.

There seems to be a silent revolution in that regard and Nigerians are no doubt at the forefront of this drive. Nigerians are every now and then coming up with awesome inventions that are no pushovers either home or abroad.

One of such Nigerians doing well in that light is Dr Abdulrazak Ibrahim. The genius is the brain behind a fine insect control technology in Brazil that has made the production of crops more secured.

His RNA interference tech prevents the whitefly insect from destroying tropical crops.

His invention which he patented with deposits at the Brazilian Industrial Property Organization, consequently saves farmers from crop wastage and consequently the country from losing a large chunk of her potential food produce to the insects.

Ibrahim, who had his upbringing in Kano, according to Scicom Nigeria, said he owes his passion for science, technology and innovation to Professor Funso Sonaiya, a lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University.

The academic who he met in the year 2000 would go on to inspire him to pursue a career in biotechnology.

He said he had great admiration for the way and manner in which the professor carried himself, his technical rendition also endeared him to the seasoned lecturer and he aimed to be like him.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported about a Nigerian man who invented giant solar-powered refrigerators to help farmers.

The young man operates ColdHubs, which uses transformative technology that tackles several problems at once, Good News Network reports.

Legit.ng notes that Ikegwuonu is helping farmers to gain more profits as they are able to preserve their fish, fruits and vegetables.
