The impeachment trial of the former president of the United States of America, Donald Trump, might soon commence at the Senate after House Democrats signified their desire to communicate the articles of impeachment to the Senate on Monday, January 25.

As required by US law, the Senate is bound to take the case and allow the trial to commence the following day immediately the article is sent to them, CNN reports.

However, things might change if senators strike an agreement to postpone the trial. Recall that minority leader Mitch McConnell had proposed to delay the trial until mid-February.

Meanwhile, it threatens to stall the confirmation of President Joe Biden's Cabinet.

In another development, the Senate leaderships say that even though they take up the case on Tuesday, the start of arguments in the Senate's impeachment trial won't begin until February 9, giving the Senate time to confirm President Joe Biden's Cabinet.

Recall that Legit.ng reported that Trump has sent a message to citizens of the United States of America (USA) following the House voting to impeach him a second time.

In a tone that seemed like concern on his part, President Trump urged demonstrations to remain peaceful, ABC News reports.

The outspoken US leader in a brief statement on Wednesday, January 13, called for no violence and vandalism in light of reported demonstrations.

Legit.ng also reported that the new president of the United States, Biden, has reportedly signed 17 executive orders right after his inauguration on Wednesday, January 20, to undo some of the things put in place by his controversial predecessor, Trump.
