Abdurasheed Maina: Ali Ndume withdraws suretiship, hails arrest

Ali Ndume, a senator representing Borno South, has hailed the arrest of the former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Force Team, Abdulrasheed Maina.
Speaking on Friday, December 4 in Abuja, Ndume who is the chairman of the Senate committee on army, said the arrest and extradition of the fugitive PRTT boss has established a belief in the ability of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
Maina is facing a 12-count money laundering charge levelled against him and a firm by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
He is alleged to have used the account of the firm for money laundering to the tune of about N2 billion. EFCC said part of the money looted was used by Maina to acquire landed properties in Abuja.

Ndume, however, said with the arrest of Maina, he will proceed to direct his legal team to begin the process of withdrawing my suretiship for him (Maina) with immediate effect.
The lawmaker said his decision is based on the fact that Maina's action shows "that he is not trustworthy.”

Meanwhile, on Friday, November 27, the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja granted the senator representing Borno South a bail after spending some days in jail.
Justice Abang ordered the lawmaker to produce one surety who must be a resident of Abuja and present evidence of ownership of property anywhere in Abuja.
The senator was arrested over his suretiship for Maina believed to have jumped bail. A day after his release, the lawmaker was spotted with the former president of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan.
The Borno state senator expressed regret over criticising Jonathan during his administration. He added that many Nigerians don’t value what they have until they lose it.
