Premier League legend Paul Merson has advised Frank Lampard to drop summer signing Kai Havertz when Chelsea hosts Tottenham.

The Blues welcome London rivals to Stamford Bridge on Sunday, November 29 in a must-win game for the two teams.

Lampard is facing a huge tactical decision to make as he rethinks his team set up for the EPL cracker.

The English boss has both Christian Pulisic and Havertz fit to select from, with the former understood to have shaken off an injury that has left him sidelined in recent days.

Despite the availability of the German international, Merson has asked Lampard to retain the attacking players who have proved effective in the absence of the forward.

The Gunners hero admitted Havertz may find it difficult to break into Lampard's first 11 again, noting Tammy Abraham and Timo Werner have already proved they can step up without the former Bayer Leverkusen star. Merson was quoted by Metro UK saying:

"Chelsea have found the right blend up front without Kai Havertz in the team and he might find himself on the fringes now. It’s so competitive there now that if you find yourself out of the team it could be hard to get back in.
"Havertz has missed a few games because he tested positive for coronavirus, and Chelsea have won them all.

Legit.ng earlier reported that Frank Lampard face-off with former boss Jose Mourinho when Chelsea welcome Tottenham Hotspur to Stamford Bridge for their matchday 10 encounter.

Both clubs are doing excellent on the Premier League table as they have just two points separating them after their last nine games so far this campaign.

The two teams also have the chance to upstage Liverpool at the summit of the table if either of them come out triumphant at the end of the game.

Lampard's men head into the game with victories in their last three EPL games, while the North Londoners have not dropped any point in their last four.
