Nigerian students under the aegis of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) Zone D have taken to the street to protest the recent hike in premium motor spirit popularly known as petrol and electricity tariff.

The protest, currently taking place in Lagos state on Tuesday, September 8, saw hundreds of the students storming the streets to object what they termed as an unjust and insensitive move by the government.

It would be recalled that the Pipelines and Product Marketing Company (PPMC) had announced that premium motor spirit would be sold at N151.56 per litre.

The development came barely five months after the pump price of premium motor spirit was reduced to N123 per litre by the federal government — and two weeks after the electricity was hiked.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has since rejected the fresh increase as Nigerians on social media also took to various platforms including Twitter and Facebook to express their displeasure.

“No doubt, this government has worsened all the crises it inherited from the last administration. In fact, the Buhari government is a clear example that we the students must go back to our revolutionary days as we cannot continue to lament,” one of the leaders of the protesting students said.
