Billionaire businessman and philanthropist Bill Gates has said the rich world will be able to put an end to the coronavirus by the end of 2021 while the world at large will be able to end it by 2022.
CNet reports that the Microsoft co-founder stated this in an interview with Wired magazine, which was published on Friday, August 7.
Legit.ng notes that Gates said: "The innovation pipeline on scaling up diagnostics, on new therapeutics, on vaccines is actually quite impressive.

"And that makes me feel like, for the rich world, we should largely be able to end this thing by the end of 2021, and for the world at large by the end of 2022."
He noted that some of the vaccines that are currently being developed are likely to only help in wealthier countries.
Speaking about antibodies, Gates said: "Antibodies are two to three months away. We've had about a factor-of-two improvement in hospital outcomes already, and that's with just remdesivir and dexamethasone. These other things will be additive to that."
At this point, there’s no telling when the coronavirus pandemic will truly end. A vaccine is probably the only way out.
In other news, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has assured Nigerians that it will ensure citizens have access to COVID-19 vaccines when available.
Chikwe Ihekweazu, director-general of NCDC, on Monday, August 3, told the press at a briefing in Abuja that the health agency was working closely with the global community to ensure the vaccines were available when ready.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a young Nigerian man identified as Tosin Arogundade has invented a pressing iron that uses gas.
Tosin said he alongside one other person had been working on the project for three years, adding that their invention is up to standard.
The young man has joined other Nigerians who have demonstrated that the country has a lot of creative minds that will go places if given the opportunity to showcase their creativity.
