COVID-19 is reason Dubai excluded Nigerians from applying for jobs, tourist visa

- Applications for visas to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), was temporarily stopped for Nigerians and other countries

- Earlier reports had claimed that Nigeria was blacklisted from applying for jobs and embarking on tourism in Dubai

- But new developments showed that the restriction was as a result of the grounding of flights in some countries due to COVID-19

Reports that companies in Dubai are excluding Nigerian applicants from vacancies weeks after Ramon Olorunwa Abass popularly known as Hushpuppi was arrested in the United Arab Emirates may not be true after all.

Legit.ng reports that the UAE noted that truly, there was a restriction, but this was as a result of the ravaging coronavirus pandemic but this has now been lifted and countries have been allowed into the country.

Recall that Hushpuppi and other Nigerians were arrested for fraud in Dubai and extradited to the United States.

Some of the multiple reports had added that apart from blacklisting Nigerians from applying for jobs in Dubai, the latter is also denying Nigerians a tourist visa.

The reports had claimed that the UAE made it known that Nigerian passport holders are not permitted to obtain a tourist visa to the country in the meantime.

The letter quoted had read in part: "Dear Applicant, Thank you for contacting us. Unfortunately, your visa application has been rejected as Nigerian passport holders are not permitted to obtain a tourism visa to the UAE in the meantime.

"However, this may change at any time as the permitted nationalities are updated frequently."

In other news, the past few weeks have been filled with horror for flamboyant Nigerian man Ramon Olorunwa Abass popularly known as Ray Hushpuppi following his arrest by the Dubai Police and extradition to the United States.

Hushpuppi is being held at the Metropolitan Correctional Centre (MCC) in Chicago and out of curiosity many are wondering what the holding facility looks like.

According to the description on the official website of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the correctional facility was established in 1930 for the purpose of providing progressive and humane care for federal inmates.

The MCC has a mix of male and female offenders with the total number of inmates currently at 567.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported how Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and second most populous city after Dubai, is engaging complex methods of screening passengers because of coronavirus.

The city engages passengers in a rigorous screening process to detect passengers those may be possible carriers of the virus.
