Just in: Another fully loaded petrol tanker falls on Otedola bridge

- An explosion was averted as another fully loaded petrol tanker fell on the Otedola bridge

- Though responders have arrived at the bridge, the tanker has already caused heavy gridlock

There was panic early Tuesday morning, May 5, at the Otedola bridge inward Berger, Lagos state, as a tanker fully loaded with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) known as petroleum fell.

This was disclosed by social media users @Naijaheartbeats and @taylsunbo via @Gidi_Traffic on Twitter.

Legit.ng gathered that the fallen tanker spilled its content in the process and some commuters have stormed the scene to scoop fuel with kegs.

Fortunately, there was no explosion and emergency officials were swiftly mobilized to the scene.

The heavy traffic gridlock on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway has started to build as the responders continue to work to contain the situation.

This is coming two months after a tanker fully loaded with 40,000 litres of petroleum discharged its content at the Otedola bridge.

The head of the truck disconnected from the tanker, spilling its content in the process. At the scene to manage the situation were officials of the Lagos State Fire Service personnel and the state Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

For some time now, Otedola bridge has become notorious with tanker and other accidents causing worries among members of the public especially motorists.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that a ghastly accident on the popular Otedela Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Saturday, January 4, reportedly left at least two persons dead.

The terrible accident took place when a tipper loaded with granite collided with a Lexus Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV). The collision forced the tipper to fall off the bridge leading to much damage to the vehicle.

According to the management of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), which confirmed the incident, among those who were injured, three others were rescued, while two were given medical treatment.

In other news, following President Muhammadu Buhari’s lockdown directive, the inbound and outbound sections of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway have been blocked by the Nigerian police.

This move is part of the plans to effectively lock down the Lagos metropolis to curb the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

Recall that Nigeria's leader in his nationwide broadcast ordered that a total lockdown be observed in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lagos and Ogun states in a bid to combat the pandemic.
