Governor Uzodinma says PDP is secretly planning to impeach him

The governor of Imo state, Hope Uzodinma, has alleged that there is a secret plot by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to impeach him.

The Imo state governor alleged that the PDP is plotting to incite members of the House of Assembly to commence impeachment proceedings against him, The Nation reports.

In a statement by his media aide, Oguike Nwachukwu, Uzodinma also accused the PDP of sponsoring a recent media report about the failure of the federal government to make any comment on his alleged $12m (N 4.3 bn) fraud case as well as the travel ban on him.

He said the opposition was making attempt to get dirt on him by spreading falsehood and propaganda.

The governor noted that he had briefed his lawyers about the issue and would take legal action against anyone who engages in a smear campaign against him.

Meanwhile, news coming out from Imo indicates that nine lawmakers in the state House of Assembly have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

While four of the lawmakers are defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), another four are from the Action Alliance (AA), while the remaining lawmaker is defecting from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

The minority leader of the house, Ekene Nnodimele, is one of those who defected to the new ruling party in the state.

In another report, members of the have protested in Abuja against the judgment of the Supreme Court on the 2019 Imo State governorship election.

The protest was led by PDP national chairman, Uche Secondus and had in attendance other prominent members of the party.

The party members demanded the Supreme Court reverse its judgment which sacked Emeka Ihedioha as governor of Imo state.

However, the demonstrations by the PDP has also generated some reactions from Nigerians on social media. While some persons supported the move, others criticised the party for embarking on the protest.

A twitter user by the name Agunmala Oluwagbenga wrote: Supreme court remains and the judges are different. the verdict that gave vindicated @PeterObi in 2006 is not the same as what transpired in IMO state. A policeman did not tender result sheets at the foot of the court for proof of evidence.

Another stated that: "PDP is always first in any bad action. First 2 win elections from prison, first 2 kidnap a sitting governor, first in 17 greater than 19, first 2 storm a court and assault a sitting judge, first 2 organize recruitment exercise where tens died, & violent protest against S Court.
