- Gernot Rohr has disclosed that it is his desire to win AFCON 2021 trophy with Super Eagles

- The German coach made this known while speaking after Nigeria's 2-1 win over Benin on Wednesday, November 13

- Victor Osimhen and Samuel Kalu were on target as Super Eagles cruised to a deserving victory on home soil

Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr, on Wednesday, November 13, said winning the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for Nigeria would make him the most excited person.

Rohr, who spoke at a post-match conference in Uyo after his team came from behind to defeat the Squirrels of Benin Republic 2-1, said winning AFCON 2021 was a huge desire.

Victor Osimhen's equalising penalty kick in the 46th minute and Samuel Kalu's wonder strike handed Super Eagles the deserving victory over their counterparts on home soil.

And Rohr has disclosed his dream of winning the AFCON title with the Nigerian team after leading them into third place during the 2019 edition of the tournament in Egypt.

“It will be exciting for me to win the 2021 AFCON title with Nigeria. That’s my desire, and I will be the most excited.

“So, winning today (Wednesday) is just the beginning. I can’t be excited until we win the title in 2021,” the German tactician said.

Rohr, who said Benin Republic have a good team, also noted that the Nigerian side had a good game in the second half.

He, however, pointed out that the game’s opening goal, scored by the Squirrels’ captain, Stephane Sessegnon, in the match’s second minute, was a big shock.

“The Super Eagles had a lot of scoring opportunities, but they failed to convert all of them,” the 66 year-old noted.

“In the second half, we played a very good match, ‘one-touch two-touch’, and we have good wingers. We had a lot of opportunities, and with the changes we made, we did very well. It is good for us.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Crisis was brewing in Nigeria's national team ahead of Super Eagles's 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifier match following reports of a verbal face-off between NFF president Amaju Pinnick and head coach Gernot Rohr.

The German coach found himself drawn down the pecking order with the NFF boss over his squad selection as he was accused of giving local league stars lesser slots in his team since taking over the helms of Super Eagles affairs in 2016.
