6 important facts Nigerian workers must know about newly signed N30,000 minimum wage bill

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, April 18, signed into law the minimum wage repeal and re-enactment bill, 2019.

Legit.ng reports that the new law would enable Nigerian workers in the lowest cadre to collect minimum of N30,000 as their wage.

The president said the signed bill would be implemented with immediate effect, adding that it would affects all Nigerian workers.

Legit.ng hereby highlights 6 things Nigerian workers should known about the newly signed law:

1. The new law would make it compulsory for all employers of labour in Nigeria to pay their workers the sum of N30,000.

2. President Muhammdu Buhari said the law would take immediate effect, starting from April 18, 2019.

3. The law excludes persons persons who are in other kinds of regulated employments are exempted by the Act.

4. It also gives the workers the right to sue their employers if they are compelled by any circumstance to accept a salary that is less than 30,000, to recover the balance.

5. The law also mandates the national salaries, incomes and wages commission and the minister of labour to be the chief and principal enforcers of the provisions of the act.

6. The enforcement and the right to start the implementation of the provisions of the act, including such steps that would be taken gradually under the law, commenced immediately.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the Senate president, Bukola Saraki, congratulated Nigerian workers over the signing of N30,000 minimum wage into law by President Muhammadu Buhari.
