The Benue state House of Assembly has confirmed appointment of Justice Adam Onum as the new chief judge of the state, Punch reports.
Onum's confirmation took place on Friday, December 15, after the retirement of Justice Iorhemen Hwande who served as the chief judge of the state for 11 years.
Legit.ng gathered that Onum's appointment made history for the state as this is the first time a judge from Idoma is appointed a chief judge since the creation of Benue 41 years ago.

Commending the new chief judge, the governor of Benue state, Samuel Ortom, said Onum is a committed judge.
Ortom also commended the outgoing chief judge, Justice Hwande, for his dedicated service to the people of Benue state.

The governor said the virtue exhibited by Hwande while in active service had impacted positively on the state's judiciary.
He said: “We are convinced that he is leaving a Judicial system that will continue to improve itself for the good of the common man. Having given the best part of his life to serve God and the people through his career, Honorable Justice Iorhemen Hwande is retiring to a peaceful life.”

Legit.ng earlier reported that Ortom said President Muhammadu Buhari remains the best president Nigeria has ever had.
The governor said this is why his state engaged in fervent prayers for the president when he was ill.
Ortom also President Buhari is disciplined and that this is the reason he was able to move Nigeria out of recession.
