BREAKING: President Buhari signs anti-graft agreements

- President Muhammadu Buhari has signed agreements strengthening the government's fight against corruption

- The president in line with anti-corruption economic diversification vision signed instruments of ratification for a number of bilateral agreements

- All relevant government agencies and bodies have been directed to commence immediate implementation of the agreements

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, August 24, signed instruments of ratification for a number of bilateral agreements strengthening the government’s anti-corruption fight.

Legit.ng gathered that the ratification which is an important step, is in line with the delivery of President Buhari’s anti-corruption economic diversification vision.

The agreements signed by the president covered anti-corruption, tax administration and intellectual property protection.

"I have directed all relevant Government agencies and bodies to commence immediate implementation of these Agreements," President Buhari said.

The anti-corruption agreements are as follows:

i. Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters.

ii. Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Civil and Commercial Matters.

iii. Agreement on the Transfer of Sentenced Persons.

iv. Extradition Treaty.

Meanwhile the presidency has advised proponents of restructuring to exercise restraint in their choice of words, saying issues are resolved through “established processes, not by abuses, insults or irresponsible statements’’.

Malam Garba Shehu, the senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity, gave the advice in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday. Shehu was reacting to opinions expressed by Nigerians for and against President Muhammadu Buhari’s speech on Monday on his return from a medical vacation.
