The exercise was earlier meant to hold in Akure, the Ondo state capital but it has now been moved to Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.

The PDP faction, in a statement reported by Information Nigeria, cited insecurity as a reason for the new decision.

The director of media and publicity of the faction, Yemi Akintomide, said the exercise would now hold at the PDP south-west zonal secretariat in Ibadan.

The faction noted that a committee led by Ahmed Gulak, would handle the primary election in Ibadan instead of the state executive committee headed by Biyi Poroye.

"We are not aware of any court injunction stopping the primary, as all court pronouncements were in favour of the Senator Alimodu Sheriff-led National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP," the faction said.

Five aspirants, including Jimoh Ibrahim, Sola Ebiseni, Bamiduro Dada, Niran Sule-Akinsuyi and the only female, Mrs. Abiye Ademoyegun, are contesting the Sheriff faction’s primaries.

There is already fear that Sheriff's alleged interference in the Ondo state governorship election would affect the chances of the PDP in the election that holds in few weeks.

The Ahmed Makarfi faction of the party had conducted its own primary election and is fielding Eyitayo Jegede, a former attorney-general and commissioner for justice in the state.

Jegede, believed to be the anointed candidate of the PDP, resigned from the Olusegun Mimiko cabinet to contest under the ruling party in the state.

Sheriff is not having it good with the Ahmed Makarfi-led faction which is supported by the governors under the party platform.

Recently, former governors and ministers in the party alleged that Ali Modu Sheriff has remained in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to finally end its existence and give way for the country to exist without real opposition.
