Election Observers Speak On Osun Governorship Polls

Election observers at the ongoing Osun State governorship polls have commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for early arrival of electoral materials as well as officials at the various polling units in Ilesa, the home town of Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

The Election observers who made their observations known to NAN in Ilesa West and East Local Government Areas of the state stated that the timely arrival of the officials would be crucial to a successful outcome of the elections.

One of the observers, who is with the Centre for Democracy Development, identified as Terfa Hemen, said he had monitored six polling units in Ilesa West and Ilesa East and confirmed that INEC officials arrived before 8am in the polling units.

According to him, the timely arrival of INEC officials for the accreditation is an indication of a free, fair and credible election.

Similarly, Mrs. Cynthia Mbamalu, an observer from Youths Initiative for Advocacy, Growth and Development, remarked that the electoral body conduct was commendable compared to previous elections.

She also confirmed that INEC officials arrived early at the various polling units and that accreditation started by 8am in most of the polling units in Ilesa West and Ilesa East.

Meanwhile, the party agent of the Peoples Democratic Party, Oluwaseun Oni, also lauded INEC’s timely accreditation of voters, and described the voters' turnout as very impressive.

An agent of the All Progressives Congress, Mrs. Victoria Olaide, said INEC officials arrived before 8am for the accreditation exercise. She expressed optimism that the early accreditation of voters would guarantee a free and fair election.
