UK Expert Says Ebola Virus Could Come From Space

With the quick spread of the deadly Ebola virus, numerous theories on the disease origin and the methods of its treatment emerge.

While one of the recent rumours that went viral among Nigerians said Ebola could be cured with "hot water and salt", the scientist from Bristol University claimed that the virus could have come from space.

According to The Mirror, Ashley Dale alleges that there is "every chance" the bug could reach the Earth on a meteorite.

Speaking with Daily Star the UK expert said:

"Ebola could have come from outside this planet. We have meteorites from Mars landing on our planet every year, and we know bacteria can survive the journey. There is every chance Ebola arrived on this planet from somewhere in space."

Meanwhile, the tropical disease has claimed nearly 1,000 lives in Africa, the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed. The epidemic is ravaging Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone. However, there are already cases registered in Nigeria and Benin.

As far as Nigeria is concerned, the virus was brought to the country by the Liberian man Patrick Sawyer, who arrived Lagos Airport with Ebola symptoms and was later rushed to a the hospital. He died two days following the admission. The second patient to die in Nigeria from Ebola was a nurse who attended Sawyer.

With the rapid spread of the virus in the country, the Federal Government requested the experimental drug from the US, which is believed to have saved lives of 2 Americans. However, President Obama said it was too early to send the drug, which had not yet undergone all the necessary safety trials, to Africa.
