UNIPORT Wins N18M Foreign Grant To Train 8 Students
The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) has won $111,632 grant (about N18m) for the training of eight students and citizens from six African countries in the master’s degree programme in Natural Resources and Environmental Management.
According to a statement by the university’s Deputy Registrar, Information, Dr Williams Wodi, the grant was won from the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa and would be managed by the African Development Bank.
The statement stated that a letter of award from the Minister of State 2 for Foreign Affairs had informed UNIPORT of the grant-approval.
Moreover, the university has also been selected to host the Carnegie American Diaspora Scholar scheme for African scholars resident in the United States and Canada.
"The Diaspora programme co-hosted by UNIPORT and 33 African Diaspora Scholar institutions would seek collaboration with other higher education institutions across the continent," the statement added.
It stated that the programme focused on curriculum co-development, research, graduate teaching, training and mentoring activities.
The statement also stated that the programme covered a wide range of courses of arts and humanities, social sciences, education, sciences, technology, engineering and mathematics.
