Couple Who Dupe Victims In Lagos Arrested

A couple has been arrested for fraudulently deceiving many unsuspecting victims in a fake auction sales in Lagos.

According to Punch, the couple was arrested at different times on different locations over a tip off by one of their victims, Mrs. Chinyere Uzorchukwu, who was duped to the tune of N5m.

The fraudulent couple, Mr Danladi Wushishi, who claimed he is a freight forwarder at the Tin Can Island in Lagos and Mrs Ojuolape Wushishi, who also claimed she is a trader in Ikotun always, used to take their victims to a fake warehouse in Ikorodu area of Lagos. They showed them sealed containers in made the victims believe the couple's words. The unsuspecting victims made payments, after which they have started expecting the goods endlessly.

The Lagos State Police Command during interrogations with the couple revealed that the couple had duped various people ranging from one Mr Nkechi Anokwuru, who was duped of N3.5m, to one Mr. Livinus, who lost about N19m, and many more all in the name of the "Okrika" (Second hand clothes) business deal.

The 46-year-old Niger State-born Mr Danladi confessed not having any container anywhere. The suspect also added that his wife was not aware that he was deceiving people with the fake auction sales.

Mrs Danladi, who is a 48-year-old trader and a mother of four, frequents Dubai and London to buy clothes for sale. She expressed her surprise over the false claims her husband made her to believe since the beginning of the fake customs auction business.

It could be recalled that just recently, a 29-year-old man, Henry Ogu and his accomplice Yunusa Okonkwo, were arrested by the Special Fraud Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, Ikoyi, Lagos for allegedly duping an American woman the sum of N52.5m ($350,000).
