16 Cultists, Including 8 Polytechnic Students Arrested In Ogun
16 suspected cultists, including 8 students of polytechnics, were arrested by the police in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Police officers of Ewekoro Division have been collecting data on the activities of cult groups in the area for several months, and, finally, 16 men were arrested on suspicion of cult-related activities in Ewekoro Local Government Area. Those arrested included Akintunde Paul, Seyi Meshinoye, Fowoshade Gbemisola, Dare Olabode, Oyetayo Bolaji, Akintunde Femi, Ajibola Abiola, Amosun Eniola, Shola Ogunniyi, Fashina Michael, Bello Oyedeji, Adeshola Amore, Ebi Victor, Ogunsola Ibrahim, Babatunde Allyson and Awobajo Babatunde.
According to the information provided by the Ogun State Police Command, guns, charms, cutlasses, broken bottles, axes and other items were confiscated from them. The investigation continues as the arrested did not refer themselves to any group or confraternity. They have been transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation, Eleweran, Abeokuta for further interrogation and soon will appear in court.
The cult activities in Nigeria are now on the rise, as dozens are arrested in different states of the country:
- Earlier, the Imo State Police Command has arrested 25 suspected cult members who are the students of Alvan Ikoku College of Education and Imo State Polytechnic.
- A principal officer of the Academic Staff Universities Union (ASUU), Kogi State University, Anyigba, has been arrested by Kogi State Police command over allegation of rape and cult-related activities on the campus.
- The Lagos State Police Command about two weeks ago, arraigned eight suspected members of the Supreme Eiye confraternity alongside two Odu’a Peoples Congress (OPC) members before an Igbosere Magistrate Court for alleged theft and murder.
