CULT ATTACK: One Feared Dead, Two Injured in Bayelsa

A 300 level engineering student and two final year students of the Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Amassomma, Bayelsa State, have been feared dead as a result of a clash between AY and Vagas rival cult groups on the campus.

The unnamed 300 level student, who was inflicted with machete cuts, was said to have died in a private hospital at Amassoma in the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state, where he was taken to.

According to an eye witness who is also a student, simply identified as Dan, a final year student was also killed by a group of cultists who were eight in number, entered the examination hall and started shooting sporadically. Dan further said that this cult happenstance is the second in two weeks relating how a final year lady was killed by same cult group.

High security is however now in place to curtail the activities of these cult groups by the school management.

Speaking with Newsmen, Mr. Hillary Opara, who is the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa Command, denied that they were any death resulting from the attack. He however confirmed that there was cult activity in the school and a student was inflicted with machete cuts.

Mr Opara also made it known that five cultists have been arrested while the Police are on the lookout for the others.

Cultism has been a major problem in Nigeria's educational system. It would be recalled that not long ago, some suspected cultists wreck havoc in Benue State University while four secondary school students were arrested for cultism in Ondo recently.
