Goodluck Jonathan Unveils N3tr Centenary City In Abuja
President Goodluck Jonathan led an official delegation to perform unveiling and ground-breaking ceremony of Abuja Centenary City Project.
In his speech the president tagged the project that was designed to cover 1,200 hectares of land as a “city of hope and elegance”, as well as a symbol of the Nigerian unity.
According to Jonathan, the project would turn out to be a modern city, where modern beauty merges with architectural creativity. The project would be realised as per all the global standards, and would turn into a unique project.
President Jonathan has reassured that his administration is determined to make Centenary City sustainable and viable from economic point of view.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Pius Anyim, revealed that a Dubai-based company, Eagles Hills Properties, would develop the city at no cost to the government.
Gen. (rtd) Abdulsalami Abubakar, who is the chairman of the Centenary City Plc, noted that the project can be successful only in case peace reigns in all parts of the country.
Therefore, the former military Head of State called on Nigerians to ensure they maintain peace.
The cost of the economic project situated at Airport Road meant to commemorate the 100 years of the nation’s amalgamation was put at N2.976tr ($18.6 bn).
A total of N1.2bn being 100 percent compensation has been paid for economic trees of the original inhabitants as well as structures of some non natives situated in 1,200 hectares of land.
20% of the plots are earmarked for residential houses, while the remaining 80% are for mixed use and for commercial purposes.
The City is expected to incorporate a free trade zone, duty free regime, tax holidays and non-regulated banking services in an effort to boost trade and investment in Nigeria, and would create thousands of jobs opportunities for Nigerians.
The Federal Government hope to make it a replica of the success of Dubai, Monaco, Shenzhen (China), Singapore and Songdo (South Korea).
