13-Year Old Nigerian Boy Dies After Saving A Drowning Girl

A 13-year-old Nigerian boy, Ricky Osagie died on Saturday June 21, after saving a girl from drowning at Waterville Hall residential complex in Blanchardstown, Dublin on Friday June 20th.

According to Irish Mirror, a friend of Ricky's, a teenage girl, got into the water and was almost drowning when Ricky and another female friend jumped into the pond to try to save her.

The other teen girl who jumped in to help also now had difficulties in the pond and Ricky took it upon himself to save both girls.

Paramedics were called and all three teens were taken to the hospital but witnesses claimed Ricky had been under water “for at least 10 minutes” before he was found.

The two girls survived, but Ricky who was described by his club manager as “better than Messi” died.

Meanwhile Ricky's devastated father, Kelly Osagie who said his son was a teenage soccer sensation whose dream was to represent Ireland told the Sunday Irish Mirror saying:

Ricky Osagie blamed the local authorities for the death of son for not protecting the lake and yet leaving the lake open for people to play knowing the place was dangerous.

Speaking to the Irish Mirror, Mr Osagie said: "We need to know why there were no signs there.

“And two, why is it that there was nothing to protect that lake. If you see where the children normally play, that place is well protected.

“But where we have the most dangerous place was left open.

“There was no lifeguard there at the time. If there was a lifeguard there then my son might not jump into the water to save them. He would have been alive now.”

Meanwhile according to Irish Mirror, the local community gathered at Mr Osagie’s home yesterday where they comforted the grieving dad, his wife Lydia and their daughters Temma and Omonigho.
