President Jonathan Leads Delegates To Senegal For African Union Summit

Dr Reuben Abati, the Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan, on Media and Publicity on Saturday, announced that the president will depart Abuja this evening for Dakar, the capital of Senegal for the African Union (AU) Summit on Financing Infrastructure Development slated for June 14 and 15.

The presidential aide, who made this known in a statement, said the president would be leading other Nigeria’s delegation to the summit. 

“The president will join other participating Heads of State and Government, representatives of the United Nations, the African Union, global financial institutions and leading investors in deliberations at the summit.

“The summit is aimed at accelerating the implementation of key priority infrastructure projects within the framework of the African Union Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa.

“The president and other participants at the summit, convened under the auspices of the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), will also brainstorm on the mobilisation of domestic financial resources for infrastructure development” it said.

According to the statement, the crux of summit would be the evolution of fresh strategies for the financing of high priority infrastructure projects like regional road and rail networks, power supply and ports development. 

The statement listed those on the president’s entourage to include Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Olusegun Aganga, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mike Onolememen, the Minister of Works, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr Nurudeen Mohammed as well as Mrs Fidelia Njeze, the Special Adviser to the President on NEPAD.
