The first son of Olubadan of Ibadan land in Oyo State, western Nigeria, Prof. Femi Lana has debunked rumours of the death of the monarch, Oba Samuel Odulana.
PUNCH reports that the professor opined that he was surprised when he read about his father’s death on the social media on Wednesday evening.
It could be recalled rumour spread on Thursday that the monarch, who clocked 100 years on April 14, was admitted to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, where he died during a surgery.
“I was shocked to hear the rumour. My brother, Gbade, who is the Oyo State Commissioner for Information, called me later and said that Governor Abiola Ajimobi had also heard of the rumour.

“I told them it was a lie.
The governor told me later that we should not add to the false report by taking any major step to quash it. “But the truth is that people should get their facts right before spreading reports,” Lana told newsmen at the Ibadan House on Thursday.
A statement issued by Lana on behalf of the family urged people to ignore the report.
“The reigning Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Samuel Odulana, is hale and hearty. In fact, I was with him this morning when he was taking his breakfast,” said the statement.
President Goodluck Jonathan was among those that wished the Olubadan happy centenary birthday on 14 April.
