PDP National Chairman Condemns Sweeping of the Venue by APC
Last Saturday, representatives of the All Progressive Congress have symbolically sweeped the ground at the Ekiti stadium in Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State capital, after the Peoples Democratic Party held their campaign there. The PDP have called this move by the APC "provocative".
Speaking on Thursday at the All Party Summit in Abuja, the National Chairman of the PDP Alhaji Ahmadu Mu'azu has condemned the habit of the APC members to follow the PDP and "sweep of their footprints" after each major event. He also expressed his surprise at the fact that men started carrying brooms with them.
Speaking about the "Bring Back Our Girls" protests, Mu'azu maintained that, initially, he thought they were well-intentioned. But, gradually, he understood that these were "opposition protests against the Federal Government" and reasoned that the subject must not be politicised.
It would be recalled that there was a clash between the PDP and the APC supporters in Ado Ekiti last weekend that involved the local police. Governor Kayode Fayemi was physically assaulted by the police and, describing the encounter as an assassination attempt on him, has personally lodged a complaint with the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.11
