Chibok Girls - Shehu Sani Wants FG To Embrace Prisoner Swap Deal

A renowned human rights activist and former negotiator, Comrade Shehu Sani, urged the Federal Government to make a ‘swap’ deal with Boko Haram members, who had offered to exchange kidnapped GGSS Chibok girls with their jailed ‘brothers’.

* The leader of Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau, 'opened the door' for negotiations in the latest video.

Sani, who has a proper knowledge of sect’s tactics, declared in Abuja on May 26, 2014, Monday that if the FG uses force, it would bring tragic consequences.

The negotiator, who had predicted that Boko Haram would propose to ‘trade’ hostages four days before the actual event, also warned that the girls, who have been forcefully converted to Islam, have risk to be radicalised.

He further told a correspondent of The Nation that negotiations in this case were the pass of honour and the key to get the girls out of Boko Haram captivity.

He further added that the government may get back to force method of solving the insecurity issues of Nigeria right after swapping the girls.

Sani further recommended Ahmed Salkida, the central figure in the ongoing back-door talks with Boko Haram, to the Federal Government.

According to BBC, the Federal Government was close to the deal with kidnappers. Unnamed mediators met sect members during the month of May and prepared good soil for the exchange. However, Jonathan’s Administration made a U-turn over the weekend, in the separate statements by President Goodluck Jonathan and the Senate President David Mark.

A possible explanation for such a move has appeared in the evening of May 26, 2014, Monday, when the Chief of Defence Staff Air Marshal Alex Badeh declared that the location of the kidnapped girls had been discovered.
