Vigilante Members Kill Man In Lagos
A source, who didn't want his name published revealed that more than five buildings and vehicles belonging to members of the vigilante group were razed to the ground at the Igbogbo area of the community.
He said the pandemonium occurred in the afternoon when the vigilante members apprehended one Habeeb Babalawo, whom they accused of being an armed robber.
The source said that the vigilante members unlawfully killed the suspect instead of handing him over to the police for further investigations.
According to him, the inhuman act angered the residents, who were mostly youths to mobilise and storm their office, where dangerous weapons like guns and cutlasses were freely used by both parties.
He said the deadly clash which made residents and pedestrian scamper for safety, mostly affected areas like Igbo Olowo, Merry Junction and Asibunolau, as broken bottles littered the road.
Another resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that apart from the alleged armed robber, who was killed, another unidentified person was killed during one of the clashes.
A police source, however, confirmed that the leader of the vigilante group had been arrested in connection with the incident.
A resident, who also pleaded anonymity, however, denied that the leader of the group, simply identified as Sina, had been arrested, claiming that he was only in police protective custody.
Efforts made to contact the state police command spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, were futile as she did not answer the calls made to her mobile phones.
Meanwhile, some residents also accused the vigilante members of high handedness as well as taking the laws into their hands while discharging their duties.
