Potbellies In Women- Genetics Or Lack Of Exercise?
Have you ever wondered why most Hausa guys that sell suya to us don't have potbellies or their weight doesn't seem to occupy space? Please, think again. 'Well, i guess they don't eat out of the suya', I hear someone reply. Sorry, that isn't the answer to my question.
As we've come to know, Hausa guys are always active and they really do lots of hard work we would normally shy away from. It's in this process of activity that they burn the fat they got from the suya whereas in our own case, we actually build up more store-houses to accomodate them.
Abdominal obesity- that we like to call potbelly- is simply an unhealthy build up of fat deposits in the abdomen. And most women arlikely to suffer from it than man because they finalise the procreation process.
So what could be responsible for this abdominal obesity that women detest a lot but are seemingly unable to do anything about?
Let's look at the causes, shall we?
EXCESSIVE CALORIE INTAKE AND POOR DIETARY PLAN
When we consume too much high fat or sugar foods, we are more likely to be potbellied. Ditto high calorie drinks like beer. Some of us would be chained, bound with fetters of iron and bronze and have a spell cast on us but would still find a way out miraculously to taste that junk food. But the way of escape is much harder when the beer bellies start surfacing. Try more vegetables and fibres for a good dietary plan.
LACK OF EXERCISES AND INSUFFICIENT ACTIVITY
Our poor exercise culture in Nigeria ensures we would likely see more potbelly people than actual pots themselves. Issue is, fat stores energy and when not used, the excessive build up results in obesity. 30 mins of exercises 5 or more days a week- alternatively (if busy) doing 2hrs of exercises spread across the weekend- would actually metamorpose you into a super-model in no time. Also, endeavour to get yourself actively busy to ensure calories are being dispensed. Try swimming, wallking, jugging, sit-ups, sit-ups gadgets (some are affordable), etc.
POOR SLEEPING HABIT AND STRESS
If left alone, some of us could actually sleep for a whole day. And the way some sleep, you'd wonder if they were injected with a
sleeping substance or given a sleeping pill. But that could ensure your belly gains more prominence shape and design. Stress could ensure some don't sleep much and getting sufficient rest and sleep would certainly do wonders. Also, try sleeping on you belly to ensure a much more flattened shape (even though your belly would protest).
'So what are the things I stand to lose if I don't want to eliminate or reduce potbellies?', you may ask. Let's check the list out.
WHAT YOU STAND TO LOSE
-Health problems ranging from obesity, diabetes, hypertension, disruption of the normal balance and functions of hormones in the body etc, etc.
-Mistaken outlook- More often than not, you might get gossiped or (if lucky) asked whether you are pregnant because of how your belly bulges out. Embarrasing, sin't it? Actually, women who have been pregnant may get a pot belly at random times based on the foods they eat because their stomach muscles have been overstretched and will now bloat more easily.
'Are there things to gain if I want to burn those belly fats?', I hear you ask. Sure there is!
WHAT YOU STAND TO GAIN
-You get to eliminate abdominal obesity and ultimately burn fat in your body. For instance, belly fat comes off from other region of the body first especially the waist area- hips, thighs and butt. So, now you know (if you don't).
-Your body becomes lighter and healthier. This enables you to participate in activities and exercises that would have otherwise
hindered you with those pot bellies.
Men are much fascinated and lured by what they see than anything. And a much more attractive shape might just do the magic (God help this promiscuous generation of men!).
Conclusively, just so you know, pot belly cannot be cured with magic diet supplement- it might lessen it a bit though. If anything, your stomach might end up having three storey-building of pot belly. You want a nice shape? Then do it the hard way! Which, honestly, is the best way.
