Disabled Man Caught With Hard Drug

A 32-year-old deaf and dumb, identified as Aliu Sanni, was on Monday, remanded in prison custody by a Federal High Court in Lagos, for allegedly trafficking in cocaine.

The accused is standing a one-count charge of dealing in cocaine before Justice Mohammed Idris.

Kalu Orji, the police prosecutor told the court that the accused was found with 17.8 kilogrammes of cocaine at a motor park in Iddo, Lagos on March 26.

The prosecutor informed the court that the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 11 (c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge after an interpreter, Olajide Adeniyi, read it to him.

Orji, however, prayed the court that the accused be remanded in prison custody pending his sentence.

The defence cunsel, Godwin Okaka, declined to object to the prosecutor's application for remand.

Idris ordered that the accused be remanded at the Ikoyi Prisons for a review of facts on the case and sentencing, and adjourned hearing to June 2.

If convicted, the accused could serve life imprisonment.
