People Of Owerri Thrown Into Confusion Over Escape Of Lion From Zoo

A hungry lion allegedly escaped from the Nekede Zoo on May 13, 2014, Tuesday, throwing the residents of Owerri into confusion.

Residents were said to have closed their shops and ran home for their safety, while some parents raced to their children's schools to pick them up.

It was later discovered that it was a false alarm and the alarmist was arrested so he can tell the police why he decided to create such panic and anxiety among the people.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, the police heard about the false alarm and reacted immediately by putting the citizens at ease.

"After proper investigation, it was discovered that it was a false alarm. The alarmist has been arrested by the police. He is cooling his heels in our custody. He must tell us why he decided to raise the false alarm that created anxiety and confusion among the people," Enwerem said.

He therefore called on the people of Imo state to go about their normal business and discountenance the false alarm, which had no basis in the first place.
