History was made Sunday November 29, when the mother of the Emir of Kano, Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi II formally moves into the official royal residence set aside for the mother of the reigning emir popularly known as Babban Daki.

The relocation to the royal house by the Emir’s Mother, Hajiya Hafsat Aminu Sanusi (aka Hajia Anduwa) symbolizes the final process of the accession of the Emir to the throne of his forefathers. The title for the occupant of the royal house is Mai Babban Daki.

The Babban Daki residence, is located within a looking distance from the Palace and have undergone some renovation works preparatory to her relocation, and is wearing new looks with royal guards (Dogarai) manning the entrance and its surrounding.

Before, there were reports that, the Emir’s mother (Mai Babban Daki) may not move into the house owing to some old practices associated with the Palace but that fear was allayed as the old woman has left her former house situated at Yakasai quarters for the royal residence.

Her entry into the house however was not with the usual fanfare and traditional gunshots by royal palace guards. [article_adwert]
