Bauchi Governor, Yuguda, Orders Evacuation Of 200 Students After Easter Attack

Two hundred students from Government Girls Secondary School (GGSS) were evacuated, following the attack on the school by unknown gunmen located in Yana, Shira Local Government Area of Bauchi State, last Sunday.

During the attack a five-year-old girl was killed, a school bus was set on fire, several telecommunication masts were destroyed.

The Bauchi State Governor, Mallam Isa Yuguda, has ordered the evacuation of 200 students from Government Girls Secondary School, Yana.

Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Ibrahim Aminu, told newsmen on Monday that the state government ordered the evacuation of the students to enable renovation work on the buildings destroyed.

He also emphasized that the evacuation is a temporary measure as the studnets will only skip classes for 3 weeks.

Only the final year students writing WAEC stay in the school for now, while the JSS 1-3 and SSS 1-2 are on break.

That is why the authorities want to use this period to renovate the ruined buildings to enable students learn in favorable environment when they return.

Nonetheless the commissioner denied that the students' evacuation was connected to the Sunday attack.

He assured that appropriate security measures have been put in place by the state government to ensure the security of all the schools in the state.
