Speaker Tambuwal's Convoy Did Not Cause Road Accident In Kaduna
Kaduna State, Kaduna - Aminu Tambuwal, Speaker of the House of Representatives, has denied his convoy's involvement in the road accident in Kaduna.
According to initial reports, two persons died and several others sustained injuries in Kaduna on Monday after the convoy of Aminu Tambuwal, Speaker of the House of Representatives, caused a vehicles' accident.
The accident occurred at about 10.45 a.m. in Kaduna, along the Ali Akilu road.
Initially, it was alleged that the Speaker's convoy was coming from Deluxe Suites, entering the busy road without a warning. While trying to avoid collision, a commercial bus with Kano plate number stopped abruptly. This unexpected move caused other vehicles on the road to ram into each other. Passengers of a Toyota Hiace car, a woman and a man, were killed when their vehicle crashed into a cement wall, while the driver and passengers of the bus sustained injuries.
The convoy did not stop and sped off, angering other road users who blocked the road with their vehicles and created a heavy traffic congestion for about two hours. A joint team of military and police personnel were deployed to the scene to disperse the crowd and ensure normalcy. The dead and injured were moved to Barau Dikko Specialist Hospital.
Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in the state confirmed the accident.
Spokesman for Speaker Tambuwal Imam Imam called the news "rumours" that are "far from the truth". According to him, the convoy only stopped to offer humanitarian assistance to the victims of the road accident.
