2OO Youth Corpers In Taraba State Punished

Taraba state has handed out punishment to 200 Batch ‘C’ 2015 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members posted to the state. 

According to the Taraba State Coordinator of the NYSC, Freeman Tumba Kwaya, the affected members stay in the state has been extended to two weeks.

He stated that the extension was to enable them serve various degrees of penalty with hard labour, which he attributed to their insubordination, absenteeism and truancy at their places of primary assignment.


About one thousand, four hundred (1400) members have however completed their compulsory one year national service had finished their service and also passed out with their certificates issued to them.

Kwaya who spoke to The Union newspaper further disclosed that NYSC is making efforts to make sure that corps members don’t travel during the service.

“The mandate is all over the federation, they are not an exception and they must do it very well. As the obedient ones enter the road to their respective destinations, the other ones who had always been on the road, will be taught how to remain here in Jalingo”.

“We were instructed by the DG to carry out head count for all Corps members serving in the state and in the process of the exercise, we discovered that 200 of our Corps members were missing from their respective places of assignment”, he said.

He also urged corps members to be careful, saying the action taken against the erring ones is to serve as deterrent to prospective corps members in the future.

He advised the corps members who just passed out to make use of the skills they acquired during their in the state, adding that as great leaders of tomorrow, they have a critical role to play in making Nigeria a great nation.

Recall that Cyril Akhanameh, the Lagos state coordinator of the NYSC on Thursday, October 15, said that 45 corps members who absconded during their one-year mandatory service will repeat the exercise.
